Emmy ... SNUBS

'Buffy' and 'Enterprise' shut out of main categories

So ... always thought those people who said science fiction never gets a fair shot in the Emmy Awards were just blowing smoke?

Well, despite heavy promotion of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" ... especially its critically-acclaimed musical episode, "Once More With Feeling," genre shows were virtually left off the list of nominees for the 54th annual broadcast of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' awards show.

Both "Enterprise" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" -- both of which air on UPN -- were nominated for five and four awards respectively, all in technical categories. Other genre nominations included Sci-Fi Channel's "Farscape" and The WB's "Smallville," also in technical categories.

"Buffy," whose musical episode was inadvertantly left off the nominating ballot last month in an embarassing moment for the Academy, picked up nominations for Outstanding Hairstyling in a Series, Outstanding Makeup In A Series (Non-Prosthetic), Outstanding Makeup For A Series (Prosthetic) and Outstanding Music Direction for "Once More With Feeling."

"Enterprise" seemed to be following suit, earning nods for Outstanding Hairstyling for "Two Days and Two Nights," Best Prosthetic Makeup for "Broken Bow," and two nominations for Outstanding Visual Effects For A Series for "Broken Bow" and "Breaking the Ice."

"Farscape" took a nomination for Best Costumes For A Series for "The Lion's Den (Part 1)" while "Smallville" got a nod for Best Visual Effects for its pilot episode. "The X-Files" won a single nomination for Best Dramatic Underscore for its series finale, "The Truth."
