'Angel' Getting Darker

Changes could mean the return of Faith and Drusilla

Some familiar faces are going to be returning to "Angel" in its fourth season on The WB according to series co-creator Joss Whedon.

Whedon told Sci-Fi Wire that he has been talking to Eliza Dushku about returning as the slayer Faith. He said he would also like to see the return of Juliet Landau as the vampire Drusilla. Whedon also hinted that fans could expect the return of Angel's evil counterpart, Angelus, played by David Boreanaz.

Vincent Kartheiser (Connor) will join current regulars Andy Hallet (Lorne) and Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) in the new season. The mystery of Cordelia's ascent into a higher plane will be revealed in the new season, but Whedon said he wouldn't say how.

"That's a mystery that I must not answer, only to say that she will," he said.

After a journey into the dark side last season, Wesley (Alexis Denisof) will continue his journey this season.

"That was the beginning of Wesley kind of finding other colors and other dynamics, and that carried on through the end of the season," Denisof said. "Now this year, we're really going to take that and go with it and twist it even tighter, that knot. The first show is just nuts. It's just so exciting. There are so many twists and turns, and every scene you think you know what's going to happen, and it's just like, bam! You get the upper cut."

Even Fred (Amy Acker) and Gunn's (J. August Richards) happy relationship may take a turn to the dark side according to Acker.

"Joss always says that happy couples are boring," she said. "So we've been happy for kind of a long time, so I'm guessing something bad is going to happen to him."

"Angel" begins airing in a new timeslot on The WB this fall on Sundays at 9 pm ET.
