Whedon Not Angry Over Mistake

Calls having musical episode left off Emmy ballot a 'human error'

The mess over the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' accidental omission of a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" episode is not resulting in hard feelings by the show's creator.

A spokesman for Mutant Enemy, which produces the show with Fox Television for UPN, said that creator Joss Whedon was not blaming the Academy for leaving his musical episode "One More With Feeling" off the nomination ballots for best dramatic writing.

"There was indeed a 'human error' thar resulted in it being omitted from the ballots, however, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences was not to blame for the error, and they ere quick to respond in rectifying the situation," said Christopher Buchana, president of Mutant Enemy, in a statement. "Moreover, Joss and I were very pleased with the Academy's response to the problem. Nothing's perfect."

The ballots inadvertantly leaving the episode off were mailed to Academy members last month. The Academy later acknowledged the mistake and sent out cards with the correct information.

"Joss is an active member of the Academy, and continues to support the ATAS in its many endeavors. And the ATAS reamins a real fan of Joss and his work. For example, the ATAS recently honored Joss and BTVS with a very cool panel discussion at the Academy, with Joss and many of the writers, cast and crew from the show in attendance.

"Our hope at Mutant Enemy is that the extraordinary response we received from the show's fans and television critics across the planet upon viewing (the musical episode) will be reflected in the balloting of Joss' peers in the writing category -- even if it required an extraordinary effort on their part to cast that vote. We'll know on July 18 when the nominees are announced."
