With "Revolution" set to make what NBC hopes is a big splashy premiere in September, the network has scheduled previews of the pilot just a couple weeks before for cities selected by the fans.

In fact, NBC will premiere "Revolution" in 10 cities, based on votes by viewers, which of course includes New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. Joining them are Atlanta, Boston, Denver, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City and Seattle, according to TV Guide.

The New York screening will probably be one of the most interesting on Sept. 4. Fans will be invited to the Hudson River pier, where the power will be cut, and the screening instead will be fueled by 100 bicyclists manually generating it. That is part of the promotion of a series taking place after Earth loses all power permanently, and can only watch as society takes steps back to pre-industrial revolution times.

Although New York will screen the pilot on Sept. 4, the rest of the cities will have their screenings on Sept. 6. The series itself is set to premiere Sept. 17 on NBC.

The series is produced by J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk, with the pilot directed by Jon Favreau of "Iron Man" fame. It's Favreau's first television pilot since the short-lived 2007 comedy "In Case of Emergency" with David Arquette, Jonathan Silverman and Greg Germann.

The show is expected to experience some struggles finding an audience, mostly because of NBC's struggles in recent years to compete with the other networks. Mondays have been especially tough, including the 10 p.m slot, which last season was given to the heavily hyped "The Playboy Club" that was pulled after three episodes due to poor ratings, and would later become home to "Smash."

That musical show, with a boost from "The Voice," averaged a 4.5 rating/7 share in Fast National overnight ratings from The Nielsen Co., just slightly above what NBC did in the timeslot the year before.

This time around, however, "Revolution" will get a lead-in from "The Voice," which added a fall cycle after a successful season season last year. Although ratings declined toward the end of the season, "The Voice" finished as NBC's top-rated show with a 7.5/11, finishing No. 10 overall.
