It's not quite time for Nick Stahl to come clean about getting clean, as his most recent stint in rehab came to an unsuccessful end.

The actor, best known for work in "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" as well as the HBO series "Carnivale," left rehab in California against doctors' advice, according to E! News.

"He left a week ago," a source told the news outlet. "He just didn't want to be there anymore. It is very sad. He's still struggling and has yet to hit rock bottom. Everyone is extremely worried about him."

Stahl disappeared in mid-May with his estranged wife Rose Murphy fearing the worst. However, police said that it was common for people dealing with drug issues like Stahl to fall of the map, and that usually, these stories have happy endings -- like rehab.

In fact, that's what happened just a week later when Stahl sent an email to close friends and then checked himself into rehab.

While the chance of success for rehab increases when someone voluntarily checks-in rather than be forced to by a court, it is much more likely someone will walk out of rehab before completing treatment than completing treatment. Stahl appeared to check in to rehab on his own, but did not stay through to the end.

Stahl was seen this past week in Los Angeles, according to E!, but it's not clear if he remained in the city, or if he's elsewhere. It's also unclear if he has remained clean despite leaving rehab early.

Murphy was not available for comment on Friday evening, and she may not be speaking out about these latest developments surrounding her husband. Back when he first checked in, Murphy hinted that she may have gone too far in bringing to light something she later felt was better handled privately.

"Once the missing persons report was released, it was overwhelming to have such private information out there," she said. "And it wasn't mostly my private information. I spoke to the media at times on behalf of my husband. Mostly when I was at a loss or even panicking. Or feeling defensive. Not ... always a great recipe."
