Fox Sneaking 'Chronicle' To 10 Lucky College Campuses
Students have to vote by Jan. 30 to try and get a Wednesday preview
"Chronicle" is getting a lot of advance buzz ahead of its Feb. 3 premiere. But do you want to see it a little early? And for free?
College students have a chance to do just that -- but they have to act quickly.
The website Eventful is offering students a chance to win one of 10 free preview screenings being offered to college campuses across the country. All they have to do is vote (and get their friends to vote) for their school on the "Chronicle" event page. The bad news? You only have until Jan. 30 to vote.
As of early Saturday morning, two campuses of the University of California -- Irvine and Santa Barbara -- were among those leading the way to earn a screening. Joining them are two schools from Florida, the University of Central Florida in Orlando and the University of Florida in Gainesville. Also in the top 10 in the early going were North Dakota State University in Fargo, Milliken University in Illinois, Appalachian State University in North Carolina, the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia, Texas A&M University and Christopher Newport University in Virginia.
But the competition is just under way, and those numbers could change significantly.
The winning colleges will have the film screened for free in front of the lucky students Wednesday at midnight, 24 hours before many theaters will start midnight showings of the film.
"Chronicle" is from writers Mark Landis and Josh Trank, and centers on three high school kids who suddenly develop special abilities. The film features Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell and Michael B. Jordan, and was shot on a small budget.
Twentieth Century Fox acquired distribution rights to the film, and will open it nationwide Feb. 3.
