'Fringe' - Enemy of My Enemy

A long dead foe returns as an ally's true colors are revealed

Alternate Broyles (Lance Reddick) plans to kill our Lincoln Lee (Seth Gabel), until Walternate (John Noble) shows up and orders him freed.

Too bad for Broyles.

Fauxlivia (Anna Torv) and her Lee close in on the location of the call from last week's episode, and find David Robert Jones (Jared Harris). He is ready for their arrival, and goes with them after he kills one of his shapeshifters, as a gesture to them, so they know he has no problems with killing.

When being brought in, Peter (Joshua Jackson) recognizes him from his encounters in his timeline. He informs Walternate, who agrees to let Peter question him. Peter talks with Jones, filling him in on facts that no one should have. This rattles Jones.

Jones gets a call at Fringe Division headquarters, and after permission is given for him to take the call, allows everyone else to hear the call, which is one of his shifters killing an emergency room filled with patients and medical workers. He demands his release after a hard drive owned by one of his shifters is returned to him.

They decide to let him go, but keep him under surveillance. Needless to say the operation fails, and Jones gets away.

While the team is sifting through the copy they took of the hard drive, Walternate has lunch with his wife Elizabeth (Orla Brady). He reveals to her that he has looked over the plans for the machine, and he cannot help Peter. She decides that perhaps she is the one who can help him.

In our universe, Oliva goes to Walter's lab to speak with Astrid (Jasika Nicole). She brings her a sample of the blood from the Observer who visited her in the last episode. She asks Astrid to run blood tests, hoping that they will find something unique.

In the alternate universe, Peter is working with the alternate Astrid, going over the hard drive. From this, Peter figures out Jones next move.

He is looking for an inert mineral called amphilicite, which can become a dangerous power source if refined properly. From the hard drive they determine that Jones is headed to a quarry rich in the ore. Faulivia and Lee go there to stop him, but differences in the terrain allow Peter to deduce Jones is in the other universe.

Peter and Lee return to their universe and along with Oliva and Broyles head to the quarry, but are too late. Jones has his ore, and is headed back to the other universe. Oliva drives after Jones, but Peter warns Oliva to stop just in time, as she barely avoids being killed by a closing gateway.

Also occurring in our universe, Walter is visited by the other Elizabeth Bishop. She forgives Walter for what happened to her son, and asks him to help the Peter who is here now. Her visit affects Walter deeply.

The Fringe teams from both universes sit around a conference room table, and try to plan their next move. There are concerned that Jones appears to be ahead of them every step of the way. Peter reveals they have one thing Jones didn't count on. Him.

Later that evening, Walter comes to visit Peter at the house. Walter has been convinced to aid Peter in getting home.

The final scenes are of Jones typing on a computer, informing the person on the other terminal that Phase I is complete, and asks about Phase II. The other person says in due time, she is almost ready. We then get our look at Jones partner – Nina Sharp (Blair Brown).

This episode had more twists and turns than a roller coaster. It was another one of those episodes that was all meat and no filler. We got a good look at what is to come for the remainder of the series.

If it all turns out as well as this episode leads me to believe, we are in for a good time.

WHAT WORKED
The scenes with Walter and the alternate Elizabeth Bishop were so sweet and touching. It made sense that the only one who could reach Walter would be his wife, even the one from the other side.

It was also sweet watching our Lee try and feel Fauxlivia out about whether she, meaning our Olivia, could find him attractive. I am really hoping this universe isn't reset to be the one Peter remembers. I want those two to have a chance.

WHAT DIDN'T WORK

Our Lee has brought up his suspicion that someone on the other side's team is working with Jones. It would be nice if someone listened to him.

A continuity mistake pulled me out of the episode. Olivia, Lincoln and Peter were shot at, and the window of her SUV was riddled with bullets. Why later in that same scene was her windshield shown intact? Come on folks, how hard can it be?
