ENT Continues Ratings Win
Back-to-back new episodes spells success for UPN
The freshman season of "Enteprise" almost is over, and there has been enough about the new series to make network UPN proud.
Back-to-back new episodes were just what the doctor ordered for the Star Trek show as it finished strong in the Nielsen Overnight Metered Market ratings Wednesday night to show that Star Trek -- at least for now -- is here to stay.
The first episode of the double-header, "Fallen Hero," scored a 4.9 rating/8 share, beating "Dawson's Creek" on The WB (3.9/6) by more than 26 percent. The episode competed well compared with other networks, finishing behind "My Wife and Kids" (7.6/12) on ABC, "According to Jim" (6.9/10). "60 Minutes II" on CBS earned a 7.5/12 while "Ed" on NBC scored a 6.9/10.
The second "Enterprise" episode, "Desert Crossing," also finished strong despite a tougher hour to compete in. It picked up a 4.4/7, taking only a small drop from its previous hour, but doing twice the audience that "Wolf Lake" had been pulling in the timeslot the previous weeks.
It was bested by "The West Wing" on NBC (12.9/18), "Drew Carey" on ABC (6.4/9), "20/20" (6.6/9), "The Amazing Race 2" on CBS (6.1/8), and Fox's "Bernie Mac Show" (6.4/9 and 6.6/9).
"Enterprise" did finish ahead of "Felicity" on The WB, which pulled in a 3.4/5.
For the night, UPN finished in fifth place with a 4.7/7, ahead of The WB, which scored only a 3.6/5. The top finishers were NBC (11.4/17), ABC (7.2/11), CBS (6.3/10) and Fox (5.9/9).
