What many are considering the most highly-anticipated game of the year, "Star Wars Galaxies" is reportedly beginning beta testing on July 15, according to LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment.

The game, which is being developed by the creators of "Ultima Online" and "EverQuest," takes a new approach to personal computer online gaming. It is set after "Star Wars: A New Hope" and before "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back," and will feature a number of character classes that players can participate in -- with everyone getting an equal chance of earning the elite status of Jedi.

Applications for the beta testing can be found at the official "Star Wars Galaxies" Web site, located at www.starwarsgalaxies.com.

The game is expected to be released sometime next winter.
