Welsh actor Rhys Ifans apprehended after an altercation with security at San Diego Comic-Con.
Ifans plays Dr. Connor -- also known as The Lizard -- in the reboot of the Marvel franchise and was apparently celebrating his birthday at the event while promoting "The Amazing Spider-man" for Sony. However, when a question arose over the identity of a member of his entourage, the actor had a scuffle with Comic-Con security.
According to reports, the actor pushed a female member of security after a member of his entourage didn't have proper identification. Ifans also was reportedly verbally abusive toward convention staff, leading to a citizens arrest taking place.
"He was abusive, belligerent and aggressive, and shoved a female security guard," San Diego police spokeswoman Lt. Andra Brown said.
Ifans himself had also been drinking, according to reports. He was issued with a citation and released. It will be up to the district attorney's office whether further charges will be levied again the actor.
An official statement from Sony Pictures states that Ifans "deeply regrets the incident."
Comic-Con attracted a reported 200,000 people this year, and ended Sunday.
