'Man Of Steel' Seeks Kryptonian Villainess
German actress tipped to help Zod in his evil plots
With the leading roles now filled, Warner Brothers are apparently seeking a villainess to join the upcoming Superman sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, German actress Antje Traue is tipped to win the role in "The Man Of Steel" however the specific details of the character are still unknown. The site confirms that the script requires a strong female Kryptonian who will assist Zod (played by "Boardwalk Empire's" Michael Shannon) in his conquests.
In "Superman 2," Zod (then played by Terrence Stamp) was accompanied by a female Kryptonian named Ursa who was actually based on the comic book character Faora.
Recently, both characters have made small-screen appearances in The CW's "Smallville" with Ursa appearing in the fifth season and Faora in a recurring role during the ninth season. In comic book lore, Faora was the second wife of Gen. Zod and had a hatred for all men – both human and Kryptonian.
The cast for "The Man Of Steel" is now starting to come together, with Amy Adams joining the movie as Lois Lane, starring alongside Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Mr. and Mrs. Kent.
No details on the plot of the movie have been announced but it seems clear that fans of the franchise can expect a harsher view of the hero thanks to Chris Nolan's input. The "Batman Begins" and "Inception" director is serving as a producer on the project and is said to have been crucial in breaking the story.
"The Man Of Steel" will be released December 2012.
