'Smallville' Actress Joins '17th Precinct'

Kristin Kreuk signs up for guest role in Ronald D. Moore's enchanted pilot

NBC's magical pilot "17th Precinct" is proving to be something of a magnet for talent from genre television, with former "Smallville" actress Kristin Kruek now signing on for a role in the series.

Kreuk, who left "Smallville" after its seventh season, will guest-star in the pilot episode as Susan Longstreet, the wife of Jambie Bamber's enchanted crime scene investigator. The character is expected to be a recurring one if the show receives a full season pickup.

Being developed by "Battlestar Galactica's" Ronald D. Moore, the series has been described as an ensemble cop drama with a science-fiction twist, and revolves around crime in a town called Excelsior where magic rules science. In addition to Bamber, former BSG actors James Callis and Tricia Helfer have signed on as regulars.

The project is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and has been given a pilot commitment by NBC. Should it go to series, it will likely air in the fall.

The pilot will be directed by Michael Rymer, the man credited for creating the look and style of the new "Battlestar Galactica" series when he directed that pilot back in 2003. He went on to direct 22 episodes of "Battlestar Galactica," including the first two parts of the series finale, "Daybreak."
