When "Battlestar Galactica" ended its four-year run, actor Jamie Bamber waved goodbye to America and returned home to the United Kingdom.

While there, he took on headline roles on shows like "Law & Order: UK" and BBC's "Outcasts."

Now, he's heading Stateside again to re-unite with his former BSG boss, Ronald D. Moore.

Bamber, who played Lee "Apollo" Adama in Syfy's re-imagined series, has landed the leading role in NBC's newest supernatural series, "17th Precinct." Playing Coalan, Bamber will trade Vipers and Cylons for magical spells and supernatural creatures.

The series has been described as an ensemble cop drama with a science-fiction twist, and revolves around crime in a town where magic rules science.

Former "The West Wing" actress Stockard Channing has also been cast in the series. She will play Mira, a former homicide detective who transfers to the 17th Precinct's robbery division.

The pilot will be directed by Michael Rymer, the man credited for creating the look and style of the new "Battlestar Galactica" series when he directed that pilot back in 2003. He went on to direct 22 episodes of "Battlestar Galactica," including the first two parts of the series finale, "Daybreak."

He has also directed the short-lived television series "Haunted," but was best known before "Battlestar Galactica" as the director of "Queen of the Damned."

The project is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and has been given a pilot commitment by NBC. Should it go to series, it will likely air in the fall.
