'Two Towers' Trailer Coming

March 29 is the day people are expected to flock back to the theaters

Just in time for the Oscars, New Line Cinema is planning to release the three-and-a-half-minute trailer of "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" March 29 with its current critically-acclaimed box office smash, "The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring."

Peter Jackson, the trilogy's director, edited the new trailer himself, which will be added to the end of the film currently showing in theaters. The new movie reportedly will have 600 special effects shots, some 80 more than what appeared in the first film.

Cinescape did release some tidbits about the upcoming movie. Gollum will have a more prominent role in the new movie as he becomes involved with Frodo's (Elijah Wood) and Sam's (Sean Astin) journey to Mount Doom. Andy Serkis will provide the voice for the cgi creature.

One character who will not be in the new movie is Shelob, the she-spider that fights with Sam at the end of the novel version of "The Two Towers." Jackson said that removing that scene and pushing it into the final film was important because "there would be very little left for Frodo and Sam to do if she did appear in 'Towers,'" Cinescape reported.

One of the strongest scenes reported in the new movie so far is the battle of Helm's Deep where an army of elves and humans spar with 10,000 Uruk-hai. Jackson has reportedly shot between 15 and 20 hours of footage for this scene, which he describes as "one of (J.R.R.) Tolkien's most vivid pieces of prose. You really feel his blood boiling."

"The Two Towers" will be released in December.
