'Torchwood' Casting Begins With Arlene Tur

PLUS: Popular face from 'Dollhouse' no longer in contention for a role

John Barrowman and Eve Myles already are on board "Torchwood" when it returns for a fourth season next year on BBC and American premium cable channel Starz, but now so is Arlene Tur.

The Miami-born actress best known for her role as Bebe Arcel in the short-lived "Crash" series -- based on the Oscar-winning movie -- has joined "Torchwood" as, well, we don't quite know who she'll be playing. What we do know is that it's a recurring role, and it's not the one of the CIA agent that IGN's Eric Goldman says actress Amber Stevens has been in talks for.

Tur has no genre credits to her name, but she most recently played Armenia in the film "Eat Pray Love." She guested in the Fox series "Lie To Me" last year, and appeared in an episode of "Grey's Anatomy" in 2006, according to Internet Movie Database.

This does keep Tur on Starz, which also produced "Crash."

Although Stevens is not a lock for the primary CIA agent role, Stevens is considered a prime contender. The daughter of legendary radio broadcaster and "Hollywood Squares" announcer Shadoe Stevens, Amber Stevens made her name most recently in the ABC Family series "Greek" as Ashleigh Howard. That show will end its run next year after four seasons, and Stevens is already cleared to take on new projects like "Torchwood."

One familiar face to genre fans is no longer in the running for one of the primary roles in the Americanized version of the "Doctor Who" spinoff. Enver Gjokaj, who played Victor in the Joss Whedon series "Dollhouse," was said to be competing with Chad Michael Murray from "One Tree Hill" among others for the role. However, producers did offer the part to James Wolk from the short-lived Fox series "Lone Star," according to Deadline.com, but he passed.

Murray also is out of the running for "Torchwood" as well.

Filming for the new "Torchwood" series is expected to begin just after the first of the year, preparing for a summer premiere. It will air on both BBC in the United Kingdom and Starz in the United States as part of a joint-production deal between the two channels. "Torchwood" had previously aired its first three seasons quite successfully on BBC America.
