Artistic License: How It Should Have Ended

A look at a very unique website that examines how some movies and TV shows should have ended

Have you watched a movie and at the end, thought that it should have ended differently than it actually did? Sure, that's a common thing, and one of the top reasons that most people give for not liking a movie. Alternate endings is the basic concept behind the website How It Should Have Ended.

The main feature of this site is animated endings to, as well as parodies of, a number of popular movies, some recent hits, and some blasts from the past. One particularly well done effort is How Star Trek Should Have Ended (based on the 2009 movie). It combines the new movie with concepts from the original series, and, well, you'll have to see the ending for yourself.

One of my other favorites is actually a combination of two of my favorite movies. Terminator: How It Should End combines the popular Terminator franchise with the Back to the Future franchise. Two very different looks at time travel and the perils and possibilities. Extremely funny, and the video manages to pay tribute to a number of favorite lines and scenes from these movies.

There also is a helpful segment called Surviving an Alien Attack where you get tips from J and K from Men in Black, as well as other characters who have fought aliens in other movies.

Most of the videos are about movies, but they also have an interesting take on an alternate ending for Lost. This series gets mixed with another popular television series from the mid-1980s, but again, you'll have to see it for yourself.

Also, there is a cute video that is actually the acceptance speech for when the site won the 2010 Streamy award for Best Animated Web Series.

There is more to this website than just the featured videos. The reviews section contains more than 100 movie reviews for a variety of films from the last five years. The reviews are well done, and to keep with the theme of the site, there is a special look at the ending of each movie. Movies are also rated, on a scale of one to five stars.

The site also has two comics sections. One is an ongoing story called Zombies which is about, well, zombies. It is black and white, and very well done. It is of course humorous, as the main characters try to keep from getting eaten when there is a global zombie attack. I'll definitely be coming back to this site to see where they take the story. The other section has a number of short strips, some of which are multiple parts of a single story, while others are stand alone strips.

As with all comedy and humor, there are some things that are hit and miss on this site. I love some of the videos, while some I find to be well done but simply not funny. The same is true of the comics. The entire site though is a loving tribute to movies and television, and the things we all love about these forms of entertainment.

I highly recommend this site to all movie and television fans, as I think everyone will find at least a few videos and comic strips you will enjoy.
