'Eureka' Gets A Fifth Season
Syfy orders another year of popular dramedy series
Bizarre, wacky and hugely popular, "Eureka" has been among one of Syfy's most stable performers ... and now the cable channel is saying thank you with a fifth season.
The series has gathered a lot of attention this season through its slight reboot and re-tooling. By way of time-travel, "Eureka" gave itself something of a makeover, and the overall consensus with fans of the show is that the change has allowed for a lot of a return of the fun and exciting energy that made the first season so enjoyable.
Overall, "Eureka" is averaging more than 3 million viewers per week over key demographics, which is comparable to the ratings high that the series hit last year when the show marked a 20 percent increase from Season 2, according to numbers provided by Syfy.
And the improvement -- both in ratings and creativity - - has not gone unnoticed at Syfy.
'Eureka' remains a steadfast performer for Syfy with its superb cast and perfect blend of drama, comedy and eye candy, Syfy's executive vice president of original programming, Mark Stern, said. Given what Jaime, Bruce and their entire team have done collectively to reinvent the show this year, we cant wait to see whats in store for Season 5.
In addition to the re-energizing of the premise, "Eureka" also has benefited from the addition of "Battlestar Galactica" alum James Callis, as well as a crossover episode with "Warehouse 13," a show which continues to hold the ratings record for the cable channel.
More recently, "Eureka" also has proven it isn't afraid to do things a little differently by following the "Doctor Who" route in the form of a Christmas special episode. A festive tale is already in the works for the series which will feature some holiday hilarity at Global Dynamics as a Christmas party goes awry in a very "Eureka" way.
"Eureka" airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on Syfy.
