New 'Battlestar Galactica' Game Will Focus On Season 2

Characters from the show announced, but no word on actual actors voicing them

Some new details have emerged about the new "Battlestar Galactica" massive multiplayer online game being developed by a German gamemaker, and it could be a welcome carpet for some of fans' favorite actors.

Bigpoint GmbH says its game -- which has yet to receive a release date -- will focus on Season 2 of the rebooted series, which aired in 2005 and 2006 on the former SciFi Channel, Syfy.

The characters that will be portrayed in the online game include William Adama (originally played by Edward James Olmos), Kara Thrace (Katee Sackhoff), Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber), Number Six (Tricia Helfer), Number Eight/Boomer (Grace Park), Number One/Brother Cavil (Dean Stockwell), Chief Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) and Number Two/Leoben Conoy (Callum Keith Rennie).

The announcement did not say whether the actors themselves would come back to voice the characters. However, the head of Bigpoint seems to suggest it might happen.

"These characters brought to life the story and captured the imaginations of a whole new generation of Battlestar Galactica fans, and we felt strongly that they needed to appear in the game," said Heiko Hubertz, chief executive officer and founder of Bigpoint, in a release. "Our goal is to create a deep connection to the mythology of [the] Syfy series, and by working with the producers, writers and actors, Bigpoint hopes to meet the expectations of the fans and allow them to wrote their own adventures through gameplay."

The Battlestar Galactica MMO will be a browser-based game, with the key characters included to help create a deeper connection to the storyline, provide quests and accentuate the dramatic tension that the series is known for, according to a release.

Hubertz is expected to share more details about the game on Aug. 17 when he delivers a keynote at Game Developers Conference Europe, beginning Monday in Cologne, Germany.
