'Caprica's' Graystone Mansion On Sales Block

House used in Syfy series pilot going for nearly $12 million

Want to own your own piece of Syfy's "Caprica"? Well, then get ready to fork over $12 million.

The house used as the Graystone mansion in the pilot of "Caprica" is on the market, and if you're interested, there doesn't seem to be too long of a line.

"It's a hard house to sell because it doesn't really appeal to the people who can actually afford houses in this price range," Vancouver blogger John Chow said. "Most super-rich are married with family. A house that has windows for bedroom walls and a glass bottom walkway isn't very family friendly. However, if your name is Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark, that's another story."

The house has been on the market even before it was used for "Caprica," Chow said. However, if fans of the show fear this is an omen that Syfy won't pick up the series for a second season, don't fret. The actual mansion was only used for the pilot. After that, recreations of the home's interiors were built on soundstages in Vancouver, and those sets have been used for the first season of "Caprica."

The recreation, by the way, is stunning, especially after looking at the pictures on Chow's blog. Airlock Alpha visited the set in 2009 as part of a media trip to Vancouver, and at least this reporter said the whole windows-for-walls thing was a bit creepy.

If you are house hunting, don't let the "Caprica" pilot serve as your guide. The pilot made it appear the house was on 20 acres of land, complete with a computer-assisted tennis court (and your own Serge robot). However, that's just Hollywood magic for you.

The home is located at 6955 Isleview Place in West Vancouver, and a real estate listing describes it as a three-level home covering 5,400 square feet, with four bedrooms, six bathrooms, a wine cellar, and a research lab where you can create your very own Cylon.

OK, not really the last part. Amazingly enough, the listing agent -- Jason Soprovich -- doesn't even mention the home's place in Syfy history.

By the way, it was real cool to see these images of the Graystone mansion.

I visited the recreation of this mansion on the Caprica soundstage last year, and outside of a few architectural differences on the interior, it's pretty darn close to what we now have on the set.

I still think that room thing is kinda creepy (I'm sure they could put curtains up. Originally, on the set, we thought the room across from the Graystone room was Zoe's room (and figured out that it HAD to be that which made her go nuts). But then we later found out, her room is toward the back of the house, away from the living room and kitchen area.

Nor does he mention the Chihuly sculpture hanging over the family room area.
