Enterprise opens strong in UK
High ratings spell success for Star Trek overseas
Having 1.2 million people tune into a show might spell its doom in the United States, where there are more than half a billion people, but in Great Britain, those kinds of numbers can only mean success.
That's how many people in Britain tuned into the Jan. 7 debut of "Enterprise," according to a report in The Guardian. That made "Enteprise" the highest premiere ever for a freshman series on a multichannel service.
Things continued to be better for the show, losing only a small portion of its audience the following week Jan. 14 when 1 million people tuned in for "Fight or Flight."
The only place Brits can find "Enterprise" right now is the satellite channel Sky One, which is only subscribed to by a small portion of the country's population. But those who do subscribe apparently like science fiction and fantasy, as the series finale of "Star Trek: Voyager" pulled in 1.33 million viewers, and shows like "Stargate: SG-1" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" maintain slots in Sky's top 10.
And for those who don't get Sky One, "Enterprise" will make its debut on Channel 4 later this this year.
