Expect Questions From 'Lost' Finale, Not Answers
The end is only the beginning, and fans will be left with plenty to consider
Don't count on answers in the "Lost" finale because, in traditional "Lost" style, the episode will raise just as many questions as it answers.
Fans who have stuck with the series over the last six years know all too well how skilled the show can be when it comes to not providing definitive answers. The roles of Dharma, the hatch and even the Others are still up in the air despite considerable screentime and development. The finale will follow the same pattern and will certainly send viewers online to discuss the events.
"We're trying to end 'Lost' in a way that feels 'Lost'-ian and fair and will generate a tremendous amount of theorizing," series co-creator Damon Lindelof said.
Does this mean we won't really know what happens to the characters or even what the last six years was really about? Not exactly. Aptly titled "The End," the finale will conclude the story of the island and its inhabitants in a satisfying manner, but at the same time will leave just enough dangling to have fans scratching their heads and dissecting everything for hidden meaning, Lindelof said.
"We're going to be as definitive as we can be and say this is our ending," he said. "But there's no way to end the show where the fans aren't going to say, 'What did they mean by this?' Which is why we're not going to explain it."
Among the answers fans can expect to see in the final run of episodes is the truth about Jinn and Sun's relationship, and the real plan behind the man-in-black.
"Lost" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC. The series will conclude on May 23.
