Marvel Finally Finds Its Captain America
'Fantastic Four' star to take the red, white and blue shield
It should be smooth sailing from here.
The Hollywood Reporter says Chris Evans, probably best known for his role as Johnny Storm/Human Torch in the two Fantastic Four films, has been offered the role of Captain America by Marvel.
The report is based on rumors, however, and has not been confirmed, so this information should be treated as any rumor would.
The Captain America deal is probably one of the best superhero gigs yet for an actor. Not only is Marvel looking to lock up Evans for three movies based on the popular comic book character, but he also would get an automatic foot in the door of an Avengers movie, and could even pop up in other Marvel movies as the franchises are brought together in X-Men fashion.
Many actors have been rumored to take on the role and his alter ego, Steve Rogers. They included people like Leonardo DiCaprio and "Supernatural" star Jensen Ackles.
Joe Johnston ("The Rocketeer," "The Wolfman") is set to direct a story written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely of "Chronicles of Narnia" fame, based on characters created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon.
Unlike other actors apparently considered for the role, Evans did not screen test, the Hollywood trade paper said. The film is expected to shoot in London later this year.
Evans also voiced Casey in the 2007 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film "TMNT," and played Zack in the failed 2000 revival of "The Fugitive."
