Syfy Grabs Season 2 Of 'Merlin'
BBC import switches networks for more sword-swinging adventures
Dragons, knights, witches, and wizards ... it can only be the return of BBC's, "Merlin."
But, don't go looking on NBC's summer schedule for the popular U.K. series. This time the wizard in training will be found on Syfy.
The first season of the series, which is filmed in the United Kingdom through the BBC's drama department, was acquired by NBC -- part of the Universal conglomerate along with Syfy -- to fill its summer schedule last year and was met with a mixed critical and viewer response. Now that the second season has completed its British run and summer is fast approaching, the series will debut its second season on Syfy.
However, if you missed out on the spellbinding series last year, you will be able to catch up on all 13 episodes shortly before the new adventures are shown. Syfy will hold a "Merlin" marathon on March 28, when it will run through the complete first season.
New episodes will then commence broadcasting on April 2 and run on Fridays after "Caprica" ends the first half of its first season.
"Merlin," which adopted the void left on BBC's Saturday night primetime schedule after "Doctor Who" finished its fourth season, features a young Merlin struggling to understand the magnitude of his power in a kingdom where the very practice of magic is outlawed.
The series has also featured a few notable names to the genre, including "Buffy The Vampire Slayer's" Anthony Stewart Head as King Uther, "Bionic Woman's" Michelle Ryan and also small-screen legend Richard Wilson (whom you may recall from the first season of "Doctor Who").
Assigned to Prince Arthur (Bradley James) as his man-servant, Merlin (Colin Morgan) not only defies kingdom law to learn about his heritage, but he also becomes key in transforming Arthur into the man who will one day become the beloved King of Camelot.
A third season has already been commissioned by the BBC which will launch in September.
