Leading Other Still In The Dark On 'Lost'
Not even Benjamin Linus knows the score on ABC's castaway drama
Confused by developments in the latest episodes of ABC's "Lost?" You're not the only one.
Actor Michael Emerson, who plays the insidious Benjamin Linus, has confirmed that he is just as much in the dark as the viewers and he hopes there will be a payoff at the end.
"Like the viewers who saw the finale of Season 5, I thought, 'As soon as we come back, there's going to be some great revelation about what all has changed,'" he said. "It's full of amazing events and crazy-good scenes. But I can't put it all together from where I am right now."
Like every season on the show, the final year of "Lost" has taken a dramatic change in the makeup of the series. However, unlike previous seasons, backstories are no longer revealed through a flashback or a flashforward ... they now come in the form of a flash-sideways charting a parallel timeline.
And, thanks to the alternate timeline, upcoming episodes will re-introduce some old characters who were killed off in the early days of the series (some of whom have already been glimpsed this season), and also some that have only recently departed the mystical island.
Why the change? Well, according to the show's producers, it's all about bringing back the tone that made "Lost" such a success in its first season.
"We thought just doing one would not inherently be satisfying," Carlton Cuse said. "We've designed each season to be its own thing. This season is about parallel timelines. The thing that was appealing to us as storytellers is that in hitting that reset button, we get to make the show really feel like season one. We're basically getting to tell origins for those characters all over again."
"Lost" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
