Jane Espenson Hints About 'Caprica'

PLUS: Find out how the Twelve Colonies can be so close to each other

So here's the idea. You have 12 inhabitable planets, each containing its own collective group of humans.

They can't be too far away, because the colonies have to be able to communicate with each other. They are, in fact, colonies, so they came from somewhere.

But knowing the little we all know about astronomy and astrophysics, how the heck does all that work?

Former "Caprica" showrunner and writer extraordinaire Jane Espenson explains all the detail in terms of the science, and talks a little bit about how "Caprica" has some big shoes to fill living in the shadow of "Battlestar Galactica."

At the same time, one thing that didn't make the video below, which was shot during San Diego Comic-Con last July, was the fact there is no Laura Roslin or her equivalent in the new show. Why? Because there is no central government yet. Each colony has its own government and there hasn't quite been unification yet.

So expect some very interesting drama moving forward on "Caprica."

Oh yes, "Caprica" premieres Jan. 22 on Syfy.
