Bryan Singer Returns To X-Men Franchise

Director will take on proposed Marvel sequel 'First Class'

What was supposed to be a long retirement into the land of DC Comics ended up being just a short vacation for Bryan Singer.

The director who helped bring The X-Men to the big screen is returning to the Marvel franchise, this time tackling a prequel called "X-Men: First Class" that will show how Xavier and Magneto first created the mutant school that featured so prominently in the original trilogy.

Singer's film apparently won't disrupt Marvel's original plans to do other origin stories. Films based on the characters of Magneto and Deadpool are continuing, according to Variety, as well as a second Wolverine film.

"Whether it's Batman, Lord of the Rings or Star Trek, if the characters are good, you want to see them on their journey even if you know their destiny," Singer said. "I put myself in the fan's position, and I think this story is something I would want to see, and so will they."

Singer apparently wrote the script that Twentieth Century Fox fawned over, and will be heavily involved in the new X-Men project. When it will come up on Singer's schedule is anyone's guess.

Singer has also been attached to "Jack the Giant Killer," "Excalibur" and even a version of "Battlestar Galactica" that is expected to be completely different from the signature series from Syfy.
