'Lost' Gets New Competition: 'Glee'

PLUS: Is 'Lie To Me' pickup good news for 'Fringe'?

Fox had made some moves for the mid-season, taking "Glee" off its schedule until its ready to lead into May sweeps and giving "Lie To Me" a full-season pickup despite struggling ratings since moving to Monday.

All that, of course, could mean some interesting news to genre series, especially "Lost" on ABC and "Fringe" on Fox.

"Glee," the musical comedy from "Nip/Tuck's" Ryan Murphy, will take a break beginning Dec. 9, and will return April 13, moving from Wednesdays to Tuesdays as a lead-out to "American Idol." That puts its start time at 9 p.m. -- which is the exact same time as "Lost."

While it's not expected "Glee" will cut too much into the audience for "Lost," which will air its final season beginning Feb. 2, it does at least create a conundrum for those who share allegiance to both shows (which, of course, is solved by using this funny little device called a DVR).

So that means "Lost" will have some interesting competition from Fox since the network decided to move its show "Past Life" to fill the current Thursday slot occupied by "Fringe."

And speaking of "Fringe," removing it from the February sweeps schedule may not have been all bad news. Fox has decided to give its Monday show "Lie To Me" a back-nine order, meaning it will be back for a full season.

Could this be good news for "Fringe"?

"Lie To Me" has lost 25 percent of its audience from last season when it aired on Wednesdays. "Fringe" has also struggled in its second season, losing 41 percent of its audience. Both shows also lose a significant amount of viewers from their respective lead-ins.

The confidence boost in "Lie To Me" might be enough to keep "Fringe" fans encouraged, especially as both shows have somewhat similar ratings. "Lie To Me" is averaging a 4.6/7 so far this season while "Fringe" is pulling in a 3.7/6 against extremely difficult competition like "CSI" on CBS and "Grey's Anatomy" on ABC.

No announcements have been made quite yet, however, so it's more like a wait and see.

"Fringe" currently airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox, while "Lost" is set to premiere Feb. 2 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
