LOTR beats 'Ali'
Even with largest Christmas opening ever, Will Smith's movie is not enough
It may have had the best Christmas Day opening ever, but the new Will Smith movie "Ali," featuring the life of boxing star Muhammad Ali, wasn't enough to beat out Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen -- who don't box -- and "The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring."
"Ali" made a $10.2 million entrance into the holiday movie race Tuesday, according to Variety. But "Rings" was a popular attraction as well, pulling in $11.6 million on the holiday. "Rings" is expected to break the $100 million mark before the weekend, and could break the $200 million level next week.
