'FlashForward' - The Gift

Grab your tissues, this episode isn't going to end well for one of our agents

“FlashForward” brought the tears this week: we lost one of our beloved FBI agents, but for a much greater good. He proved to us, and to his fellow agents, that the flash forwards can indeed be changed, they aren’t doomed to happen even if we don’t want them to.

This is good for most of our main characters, as they don’t want their flash forwards to happen. Knowing that they are in control of the visions must make them sleep better at night.

Mark (Joseph Fiennes), Al (Lee Thompson Young), and Demetri (John Cho) found their way into The Blue Hand this week, but had to play a game of Russian Roulette before they could pass through the doors. It was an intense scene that made more sense at the end of the episode when we discover that Al has a plan. If he dies in this game, or by his own hand, can he save the woman he killed in the future (as spoken about in his flash forward)?

The answer would seemingly be yes, but as Fiona (Alex Kingston) said, it’s possible the bird may just hit another window and die if it doesn’t hit hers. Perhaps the Celia will die by someone else’s hands, if they are no longer Al’s?

Something is clearly up with the cartoon show that Charlie is always watching. She dressed up as the main character for Halloween, and they’ve shown a clip of it in just about every episode, so it’s something to keep an eye out for.

What Worked

Another great cliff hanger; apparently Tracy really is alive, and hopefully next week we’ll find out her story.

As usual, Callum Keith Rennie finds his way into a ‘what worked’ column. The guy just gets better and better, no matter what show he’s in. He’s always creepy, ominous, and perfect in the role…even if it always seems to be same character. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

What Didn’t Work

What’s Zoey (Gabrielle Union) keeping from Demetri? She still has not actually seen him in her vision…is she trying to convince herself that he is the one she’s marrying in the vision? It seems that she’s more focused on what she wants it to be, not what she actually sees. That’s dangerous territory, she would probably be better served to help Demetri than tell him he’s mistaken.

Who’s the creeper that’s following Aaron around? The guy pops up after every commercial break and makes what could have been one conversation into three separate scenes. I guess it can be hard to fill up 42 minutes on a prime time TV show.
