Sure, there might be some concern around fandom about how well "V" will do in its second week, but for right now, genre fans can celebrate the fact that the remake of the 1980s television phenomenon is doing so well, it actually finished among the best shows of the week.

And this isn't just any old week. This is the first week of sweeps.

The 8.5 rating/13 share "V" earned in Fast National ratings from The Nielsen Co. Tuesday allowed it to just edge "Two and a Half Men" on CBS to finish 10th among network shows, just slightly behind "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" on ABC. It also was, by far, the best-rated network genre program for sweeps week, easily beating "FlashForward," which had a 5.7/9 last week.

Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to power ABC to a Week 1 win. Instead, those honors went to CBS, which managed a 7.0/11 average among non-news, non-event programming, thanks to a solid 11.7/18 outing of "NCIS," the week's highest-rated program, and not having a single show below the 4.0 household rating. "V" got a boost from generally positive reviews from critics, but now enters what will be for sure a very difficult second week. It's almost definite that "V" will come down from that premiere, but the real question is by how much.

It was ABC's sixth-highest rated show, while "FlashForward" was 11th.

"Heroes" finished the first week of sweeps at a very anemic 3.8/6, although its audience has been growing consistently -- if slightly -- over the past few weeks.

"Vampire Diaries" has a solid performance, earning a 2.6/4 -- beating its average so far this season -- while "Supernatural" captured a 1.7/3.
