'FlashForward' - Scary Monsters And Super Creeps

Something is about to go down in the Benford household, and it isn't good

After weeks of anticipation, we finally got to know a bit about the mysterious Simon (Dominic Monaghan) who claims to be a quantum physicist genius who knows the reason why the flash forwards occurred. Hes smooth, manipulative, and super creepy - a vastly different character than any of the others weve seen Monaghan play. Does he pull it off? Quite well, in fact, hes probably the super creep the episode is named after.

Janice (Christine Woods) is recovering from her gunshot wound, and the rest of the FBI team are deeply concerned about what happened to them last week. Clearly someone with a lot of power is after them, but we wont find out about that in this episode - the focus is more on the characters and their relationships.

Another piece of Marks (Joseph Fiennes) wall was filled in this week, the blue hand. As any good Halloween episode should do, the clue leads Demetri (John Cho) and Al (Lee Thompson Young) to a mysterious house with lots of dead bodies. There's blood and gore, but thats about as far as it goes this week. All we got is a clue that points to "Rutherford", another hint on Mark's board.

On a side note, did other Firefly fans keep hearing Two by two, hands of blue in their head during this episode?

What Worked

In what was perhaps the most important moment of this episode, we got to see Olivia (Sonya Walger), Mark, and Lloyd (Jack Davenport) all intersect at the Benford home. Lloyds son keeps repeating, Its my home too, and ends up in the Benford kitchen. When the parents and Lloyd meet in the living room, they slowly come to the realization that he is the other man in Olivias flash forward. Mark forcibly but kindly tells him to stay away from his family.

It will be interesting to see if Olivia chooses to leave Mark because of what she saw in her flash forward, almost out of obligation, or if she does it because she truly does fall in love with Lloyd and desires to start a relationship with him.

Since we learn that Lloyd is working with Simon, it makes you wonder if hes purposely placed himself in Marks life to ruin it. perhaps he knew all along that he was the other man in her vision?

This may be a bit premature, but the fact that Callum Keith Rennie is in the previews for next week sent this fan girls heart all aflutter. Is there a genre show that hes not been on?

What Didnt Work

It does seem strange that this small group of investigators would be the only ones trying too hard to figure out what happened to the whole world; doesnt anyone else care as much? 20 million people died, you would think that would warrant a bigger investigation.

Mark doesnt seem to be so good under pressure when it comes to his family. He makes Olivia feel guilty for an affair she hasnt had yet, and she finally gets it out of him that hes drinking in his flash forward. He keeps it cool during the investigation and a shootout in a garage, but when hes dealing with his intimate relationships, the man falls apart. Perhaps this is what leads him to drink again?
