It's not very often Stargate fans see efforts to tie the popular 1994 movie in with the television franchise, but Lionsgate is doing that in an effort to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the movie that first made the word "stargate" a household name.

The original movie, written and directed by Roland Emmerich, and starring Kurt Russell, Djimon Hounsou and James Spader -- the man who first got to play the popular character of Daniel Jackson, is coming to Blu-ray. It coincides with the first-season run of "Stargate: Universe," the third series in the Stargate franchise, right now on Syfy, and will offer both the theatrical and extended cuts of the film together in one package for the first time.

The DVD also includes four hours of special features, including a gag reel as well as interactive trivia.

"Stargate" hits Blu-ray Oct. 27.
