'Dollhouse,' 'Smallville' Fade Into Obscurity
Audiences still won't show up for Friday night network genre programming
Do fans know there is other program on television Friday nights besides on Syfy?
Apparently not. And both Fox and The CW are paying the price.
"Dollhouse," which is gunning heavily to be removed from Fox's lineup far earlier than expected, earned a 1.4 rating/3 share, according to Fast National ratings from The Nielsen Co. It basically matches the audience the show received last week, and was Fox's lowest-rated show ... period.
The Joss Whedon drama starring Eliza Dushku actually finished with the same-sized audience as "Smallville" in the 8 p.m. hour on The CW, also picking up a 1.4/3, marking that show's lowest ratings ever. Both shows are two of the lowest-rated on television, besting only "Melrose Place" on The CW.
How long Fox will allow its Friday lineup to bring down its overall rating is not clear. Once again, it was Friday that destroyed Fox's chance of staying ahead of NBC in the weekly ratings race of new, non-event programming. Ignoring Friday, Fox would've finished the week with a 4.8/7 average, decently ahead of NBC's 4.2/7. However, "Dollhouse" and the network's Friday comedies have dragged Fox's weekly rating down to a 4.1/7.
Fox finished well in fourth place for Friday night, barely beating out The CW which aired just one new program and a rerun. CBS won the night with a 5.1/9, according to Zap2it.
For the week, "FlashForward" on ABC finished as the top-rated network genre program despite falling to a 5.9/9, followed by "Fringe" on Fox, which is struggling on Thursday nights, picking up a 3.7/6. NBC's "Heroes" was third.
