'Buffy' finally gets noticed
The show is up for Best Drama at AFI Awards
Make plans to sit in front of the boob tube Jan. 5 at 8 p.m., to find out whether or not UPN's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" can convert a long-awaited nod in Best Drama Series category into a win.
The show received the nomination this week as part of AFI Awards 2001 from the American Film Institute.
"Buffy" will compete with two HBO shows, "Six Feet Under" and "The Sopranos" as well as the Emmy-award winning "The West Wing" on NBC.
"Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" isn't out yet, but it already is up for awards through AFI as well. The movie was nominated for Movie of the Year, competing against a long list of movies which include "A Beatiful Mind," "Black Hawk Down" (featuring Tom Hardy who will play Shinzon in "Star Trek: Nemesis"), "In the Bedroom," "The Man Who Wasn't There," "Memento," "Monster's Ball," "Moulin Rouge," "Mulholland Drive" and "Shrek."
"Lord of the Rings" also is up for Production Designer of the Year (Grant Major), Digital Artist of the Year (Jim Rygiel) and Composer of the Year (Howard Shore).
