Fox Unhappy About Porn Version Of 'The X-Files'
Wants production company to change name
Is it art? Is it parody? Or is it simply a copyright violation?
Whatever it is, it's now getting publicity.
Twentieth Century Fox has demanded adult film studio Digital Sin/New Sensations to change the name of its upcoming pornographic release "The X-Files: A Dark XXX Parody," saying the name violates their right to "The X-Files" name.
Digital Sin/New Sensation announced the receipt of the cease and desist Monday, but said it still plans to release its video in late September.
Although the studio maintains its original name didn't violate any rights Fox had to the X-Files trademarks, it did say that it was changing its name to the more porn-like title of "The Sex Files: A Dark XXX Parody" in the "spirit of cooperation." At the same time, the porn studio has changed the name of its main characters, and made adjustments to its Web site associated with the film.
The new name might have a different set of problems for the film. A search on Internet Movie Database has found at least 13 other productions with the same name, some related to each other, and one a documentary television series that ran on Discovery Channel Canada between 2001 and 2004.
Digital Sin/New Sensation is no stranger to its pornographic parodies. The studio already has made versions of other shows including "The Office," "Scrubs," "Seinfeld," "Friends" and "30 Rock."
