'Battlestar Galactica' Concert Says Good-Bye To A Friend
The cast reunites in San Diego to celebrate a colleague taken too soon
Everyone at the House of Blues in San Diego had an emotional time at the Battlestar Galactica Orchestra concert on Friday night.
Led by Edward James Olmos, the night was a celebration of the life of close friend and colleague Harvey Frand. On Thursday night, the beloved line producer of the show died at 68. A dear friend to the entire cast, the attendees were treated to toasts, cheers and multiple chantings of So say we all in his honor by Olmos.
Olmos had just earlier that day broken the news to Hogan in the Exhibit Hall at Comic-Con International in San Diego.
While the night was full of memories of Frand, there were a few surprises for the fans as well. Grace Park, Michael Trucco, Michael Hogan, Michelle Forbes, James Callis, Nicki Clyne, David Eick and Richard Hatch were all in attendance to toast their friend. Almost all were in tears by the end of the night, as they reminisced about the important man in front that fans rarely saw, but whose mark was evident in the critically acclaimed SciFi Channel series.
On the music front, "Battlestar Galactica" and "Caprica" composer Bear McCreary led the orchestra of about 18 people playing violins, drums, flutes, bagpipes, pianos, guitars, the cello and more. They played the most recognizable music from the series including the "March of the Cylons, the Celtic tunes from New Caprica, and the opening song featuring singer Raya Yarbrough.
McCreary performed All Along the Watchtower, on the piano, a song that played a prominent role in the finale.
By the end of the night, people were screaming So say we all at the top of their lungs, and the stars and fans were dancing along together to the music that inspired so many of them in personal ways.
