Behind The Scenes Of 'Stargate SG-1' Pilot

With the remastered version coming to DVD, those who worked on the redesign talk

Brad Wright always wanted to take a bit of a different approach to the pilot of "Stargate SG-1" which first aired on Showtime well over a decade ago. And now he's getting his chance with a remastered and re-cut version of the pilot that is now on store shelves as a new DVD.

"Stargate SG-1: Children of the Gods - Final Cut" has everything the executive producer was hoping to accomplish in the pilot, even if a lot those goals were done more in hindsight as the series wore on.

The pilot was designed to bring in viewers who liked the original "Stargate" movie while at the same time, bring in new people to the world that Wright and others were trying to create. After an initial run on Showtime, the series would eventually get picked up by SciFi Channel, which would continue producing episodes for 10 seasons.

"SG-1" was a viewer success, and spawned two more spinoff series, "Stargate: Atlantis" which aired for five seasons, and the upcoming "Stargate: Universe," which premieres on the newly rechristened Syfy in October.
