The BBC is suffering "Doctor Who" withdrawal as its signature science-fiction series takes an extended break this year for a series of specials, culminating in the regeneration of David Tennant into Matt Smith over the festive period.

While this event will surely draw a captive audience, it now looks like Tennant may not be out of the Tardis entirely, at least not according to the latest reports.

Last month saw word leak to the British tabloids that Tennant, who has played the Time Lord for four years, may be in talks to appear in a big-screen adaptation of the long-running series and that a script is in the early stages.

Similar reports from such publications have proven to be less than credible in the past, but this time series creator Russell T. Davies has lent a hand to the speculation with word that he is working on a "special project" and some rumors even suggest that the project will be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con later this month.

"News as and when, but I can promise, it's worth waiting for," Davies said, according to The Doctor Who Magazine.

Meanwhile, Tennant continues to be attached to an unidentified sci-fi project.

The latest "Doctor Who" special episode, "The Waters Of Mars," is expected to air in the fall with the final two parts scheduled for broadcast at Christmas and New Year.

None of this has been confirmed by BBC or by David Tennant, so it should continue be treated as any rumor would.
