He was supposed to be the saving grace of "Heroes," and at the same time the main reason why NBC picked the show up for the fourth season in the first place.

But just a former "Pushing Daisies" executive producer Bryan Fuller re-joined "Heroes," he was gone.

"Development was really starting to heat up, and it appears like I may be writing multiple pilots for NBC so that wasn't leaving a ton of room for 'Heroes,' unfortunately," Fuller told Ain't It Cool News.

Although he won't be a part of the production crew, his influence might be felt throughout the season, however.

"We crafted some really great arcs for the season that I'm excited to see come to fruition," Fuller said. "I love the cast dearly and am so sad go. But the plate ... she was overflowing."

Fuller shared similar sentiments with Michael Ausiello from Entertainment Weekly.

"I'm crafting two pilots right now and it's a lot of work," Fuller said. "It was just too hard to [juggle] 'Heroes' and my development. Something had to give."

Fuller, who got his start on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: Voyager," continued on to work on some powerful series including the cult classic "Dead Like Me," "Wonderfalls" and the recently canceled "Pushing Daisies."

There has been some speculation that one of the pilots Fuller is working on could be associated with a new Star Trek series set in the same universe as the recent blockbuster from J.J. Abrams, "Star Trek." However, Fuller has a development deal with NBC Universal, not with CBS Corp. which owns the rights to the Star Trek franchise, so such a move would be highly unlikely.
