Airlock Alpha is a news and rumors science-fiction entertainment Web site owned by Quantum Global Media Inc. It began in 2001 as a collaboration between current Airlock Alpha owner Michael Hinman, who created SyFy World in 1998, and Greg Boubel, who started Star Trek Portal a short time later. Following Boubel's departure from the site, Hinman created Quantum Global Media, which manages Airlock Alpha today. It was incorporated in Florida in 2007, and is the parent site of both Airlock Alpha and Rabid Doll.
Airlock Alpha was formerly known as SyFy Portal, a brand name that was sold to NBC Universal in February 2009 and is now wholly owned by that company. We have no ownership rights or claims over the name, and we have no official affiliation with NBC Universal or its Syfy channel.
However, we do cover a number of programs there, and participate in
numerous press events with the company, as we do other studios and networks.
News is something that has been released through official channels about a certain topic, while rumors are generally stories that are not confirmed through official channels. Although Airlock Alpha works hard to corroborate all rumor reports, please know that information contained in rumors are subject to change over time, or could even be incorrect.
Beginning in January 2009, Airlock Alpha has moved away from providing script-specific spoilers in stories, for a number of reasons. The biggest reason is that Airlock Alpha's strong relationship with the networks and studios no longer requires a dependence on spoiler news as a way to differentiate it from other sites. At the same time, larger media organizations like magazines and TV shows with far more resources, dipped their hands into spoilers (many times calling them "scoops" instead of "spoilers"), and that's simply resources Airlock Alpha and its volunteer staff cannot compete with.
That doesn't mean there aren't tidbits of plotlines and such found in Airlock Alpha reporting. There is always a chance for moderate spoilers when talking about cast changes, show direction changes, or other stories that don't focus on just plotlines.
Michael Hinman is the founder and site coordinator of Airlock Alpha, and he's the owner of Quantum Global Media Inc. He leads a team that includes Nick Chase as the chief technology officer, Shane Churchman as the creative director, Alan Stanley Blair as news editor and Bryant Griffin as the assistant news editor.
