Bear McCreary To Host San Diego Concert During Comic-Con

'Battlestar Galactica' composer about to release two new albums as well

By MICHAEL HINMAN May-27-2009

There are few composers who have the fan following Bear McCreary has. Whether it's "Battlestar Galactica," the now-canceled "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" or even SciFi Channel's "Eureka," McCreary's notes and chords have become an integral tool in television storytelling.

Just in time for the release of two soundtracks, including one for the pilot of the "Battlestar Galactica" prequel "Caprica," McCreary will host a series of concerts in California, including an entire weekend in San Diego the same time Comic-Con is under way.

The first concert using music from "Battlestar Galactica" will kick off the 2009 Grand Performances Series at California Plaza June 13 in downtown Los Angeles. The free concert comes just three days before the release of the "Caprica" soundtrack by La-La Land Records.

Then, between July 23 and July 25, McCreary will head east to San Diego for three nights of music at the House of Blues there just in time for the special twin-CD set of "Battlestar Galactica: Season 4," also released by La-La Land Records.

The record company and McCreary have made a great team. The 2005 release of "Battlestar Galactica: Season One" became the top-selling album from the label, and was followed a year later with the release of Season 2 music and McCreary's first sold-out concert performance in Los Angeles.

Interest in McCreary's music became so strong that his 2008 concerts had to be moved to a larger venue, Roxy on the Sunset Strip, which also sold out.

For more information on either album, visit the official Web site of La-La Land Records.

McCreary's June 13 performance begins at 7 p.m., and tickets are free. His performances at the House of Blues San Diego, located at 1055 Fifth Ave., will require tickets. Information on how to get them can be found on McCreary's official site by bearmccreary.com/blog.
