Questions Surround Death Of 'Spider-Man 3' Actress

Lucy Gordon apparently committed suicide in France Wednesday

French police are continuing to investigate the death of actress Lucy Gordon, even as foul play has been ruled out.

Gordon was found Wednesday by an unidentified male friend after apparently committing suicide, People magazine reports.

An up-and-coming actress, Gordon is probably best known to genre fans as Jennifer Dugan in "Spider-Man 3." However, she has appeared in a number of other films including "Perfume" in 2001, and "The Four Feathers" with the late Heath Ledger. She also is starring in the upcoming film "Serge Gainsbourg."

Friday would've been her 29th birthday.

"She was a sparking, warm-hearted, touching and generous, and we will miss her sorely," said Elizabeth Simpson, Gordon's French agent.

"We have always been immensely proud of her and her achievements," her father Richard Gordon told the British Press Association. "We love her so much. She was called Lucy and she has lived up to that. She has been the light of our lives, me and my wife Sue, and daughter Katie."

While it's not clear why Gordon would take her own life, suicides and suicide attempts are not uncommon in Hollywood through the stress of fame and always trying to be on top. It's been six years since actor Jonathan Brandis, who starred in "SeaQuest DSV" took his life. Richard Farnsworth, another actor genre fans may recognize as the sheriff in the Stephen King film "Misery," shot himself in 2000 after being diagnosed (and reportedly severely suffering from) terminal bone cancer.

Of course, suicide is nothing more than a permanent solution to a temporary problem, and there are people to help. If you or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts, please don't hesitate to contact the Suicide Hotlines.
