'Star Trek' Gets One Last Critic: Barack Obama

So ... did the President like the latest movie? Find out ...

It's probably safe to say that this guy didn't have to wait in line to buy tickets.

As if making more than $150 million in the domestic box office (so far) wasn't enough, it seems that director J.J. Abrams and writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have another fan. And he lives in a small white house on Pennsylvania Avenue.

President Barack Obama said he had a chance to watch "Star Trek XI" over the weekend. And he has to say ... it was worth watching.

"The only television I'm watching these days is sports," Obama told Newsweek's Jon Meacham. But when it comes to high-budget films on the big screen, that's a different story.

"Now, movies I've been doing OK [with] because it turns out we got this nice theater on the ground floor of my house," Obama said. "So 'Star Trek' we saw this weekend, which I thought was good. Everybody was saying I was Spock, so I figured I should check it out."

And believe it or not, he actually did the Vulcan hand salute. Yes, the leader of the free world just showed said world his inner geek.

"I used to love 'Star Trek,'" Obama said. "You know, 'Star Trek' was ahead of its time. The special effects weren't real good, but the storylines were always evocative, you know. There was a little commentary and a little pop philosophy for a 10-year-old to absorb."

Of course, now fans want to know what he thought of "Wolverine."

In any event, Obama wasn't the only federal institution getting their Star Trek on. Astronauts on the International Space Station got a bit of a fun wakeup call this morning. Listen to what they heard and responded by clicking here (courtesy of TrekMovie).

Want to see what Obama and NASA is talking about? "Star Trek XI" is still playing in theaters worldwide.
