Edward James Olmos Led Charge Against JumpCon
Vowed to protect fans and get their money back from now-indicted organizer
Now that the organizer of the failed JumpCon convention is facing felony charges of theft and unfair or deceptive business practices, some fans who are still waiting for their money are thanking one of the actors who had been scheduled to appear at JumpCon Boston: Edward James Olmos.
Olmos, who just ended a run playing Adm. William Adama in SciFi Channel's "Battlestar Galactica," had been touted, along with co-star Mary McDonnell, to be guests at JumpCon by its organizer, Shane Senter. When the convention failed and fans complained they weren't getting their money back as promised, Olmos told a panel at Dragon*Con later last year that he was fighting to make sure Senter refunded every penny.
"This guy ended up doing ... a real major con job on all of us," Olmos said of Senter, according to the Nashua Telegraph. "We were taken advantage of us. All of us."
Olmos told fans at Dragon*Con that he had already spoken to the attorney general in New Hampshire, and was "going after this guy." He said he would devote "as much time as it takes to bring this bastard down."
"He'll learn that he should not mess with an admiral," Olmos said. "Nor the people that take part in these kinds of conventions. We will get to the bottom of this, and I'm going to try to get everybody their money back."
Senter has since been indicted on two felony theft charges and four counts of unfair and deceptive business practices. He will be arraigned Friday at Hillsborough County Superior Court in New Hampshire.
The attorney general's office said 44 complaints had been made against JumpCon through March. If convicted, Senter could face up to 14 years in prison.
