Greg Beeman Latest 'Heroes' Casualty

NBC opts to go without producer/director position next season

As NBC prepares for fewer episodes of "Heroes" next season, it also will be lightening the crew behind the cameras.

Greg Beeman, who has been a producer and director on the show since it first launched, will not be with "Heroes" when the show moves on to its fourth season. He broke the news to fans in his popular bog, Beaming Beeman.

"Ultimately this was a financially motivated decision made by NBC," Beeman said. "They no longer want to have a producer/director position on the show. But it coincides well with my own innate wanderlust, and so while sad to leave so many friends and comrades, I am excited for the the future."

Beeman decided not to provide a behind-the-scenes perspective of the show's third season finale as he has for past episodes, but instead, thank individual members of the cast and crew in detail. However, he did point out that he wants to keep his blog active, even if it's not tied to "Heroes" anymore.

"It is a bit too early to say, but I have a strong feeling I will be involved in exciting projects in the very near future," Beeman said. "I hope that many of you who have followed me up to now will continue to follow with me as I move forward. I have been amazed that the blog frequently gets 30,000 to 40,000 hits a week. If I have been able to give any enjoyment or insight to you fans, then that is certainly enough to me."

As for the season finale, Beeman said he was "pleased with the overall results, and I hope you will be as well."

Beeman follows writers Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander, who was let go from the show last November. Returning, however, is "Dead Like Me" creator Bryan Fuller, who had left after the first successful season to create "Pushing Daisies" for ABC. He came back after the network pulled the plug on the series following a disastrous second season in terms of ratings.

"Heroes" has been picked up for a fourth season, but will air between 18 and 20 episodes next season instead of the 25 produced for this season.

Beeman has posted a large number of behind-the-scenes pictures from the season finale of "Heroes," all of which can be found here.
