TwitterCap: Stars Obsess Not Over Movie, But Hockey

PLUS: New updates on 'Stargate: Universe' casting

While many of us are trying to forget all about the National Hockey League Playoffs (I'm a Tampa Bay Lightning fan, need I say more?), a bunch of the famous people we love to follow can't get enough of it. And for those who don't like the constant hockey Twittering? Their message is clear: Go somewhere else.

So who likes what team? Why don't we let them tell you.

"Good news, non-pucksters," writer and director Kevin Smith (@thatkevinsmith) wrote Sunday night. "Dinner with the family on a boat that goes around New York. I won't be watching/Tweeting [New Jersey] Devils game 6 at 7:30."

Our favorite child-star turned author Wil Wheaton (@wilw) also has his favorite team out there, too ... but who is it?

"Let's go 'Hawks," Wheaton said of the Chicago Blackhawks. But at one point, he was trying a little reverse psychology. did it work?

"Hmmmm, let's try something," he said. "(Ahem). Let's go, uh, [Calgary] Flames."

The Flames did lose to Chicago Saturday, so maybe it's working for Wil. However, Kevin Smith is not happy he went on a cruise instead of watching hockey.

"Holy. Shit," Smith said. "Last time I go on a dinner cruise around the island. Fuck, that's the last time I go to dinner at all during the playoffs."

Kevin Smith is the Devils' good luck charm, and he knows it.

"OK, so there'll be a Game 7 at the Rock," Smith said. "The Devils will get to win their first playoff round on home ice. And I'll be there cheering."

It wasn't all hockey for Wil Wheaton. The man who is his own Star Trek icon (and sadly, not in the best way in the eyes of some fans) got up to read an excerpt from his latest book, "Happiest Days of our Lives." However, he was trying to nail down which chapter would make it.

"I can't decide," he said. "Should I read 'The Trade' or 'Blue Light Special' tonight? Each one is about 25 minutes long when performed."

But the Twitter responses must not have been helping much.

"Maybe the best thing to do is take them both, and then roll a d20 when I get there," Wheaton said. "1-10 and I read 'The Trade.' 11-20 and I read 'Blue Light. The only other place in the world I feel this at home is behind a [Dungeon Master] screen."

Wheaton later decided he would read "Blue Light Special" because it had a broader appeal to the generation he was trying to reach (his own), and he also sings a song. But would anyone be there?

"Leaving for the theater," he said. "Thanks in advance to all of you who are coming tonight. I think you're smart and pretty and smell like flowers."

But he god some bad news from @brendoman. "There is no line and the doors open at 7, so if you are on the fence you should swing by," he said. Wheaton responded with a solemn "That's not good."

But the crowd ended up being there, enough that Wheaton felt intimidated.

"I hope they speak geek, or I am seriously screwed," Wheaton said.

Wheaton did get a little bit of a pep talk from Eugene Roddenberry (@roddenberry) which probably helped a little.

"Wil, I have [been] floored by how passionate and genuine you come across when speaking to crowds time and time again," Roddenberry said. "Just be you!"

Rod, by the way, is trying to Twitter more as he gets used to the whole idea of sharing information in 140 characters or less, but he used three tweets on Saturday to say something real nice about me (and thanks, by the way, Rod!)

"Everyone, today is Michael of @airlockalpha's birthday. Let's sing to him!" Roddenberry said. "He's got one of the best SyFy Web sites out there. Dare I say it ... perhaps even better than Roddenberry.com."

No, Rod, don't sell yourself short there. Roddenberry.com is an awesome site. We are lucky to get to share the same universe with it. And be careful about that whole "SyFy" thing ... don't want to get NBC Universal in a tizzy!

Two of science-fiction's up and coming stars, and we actually can say Syfy up and coming stars because they'll be on, well, Syfy, are sharing a lot of news about "Stargate: Universe."

We're not sure if anyone else is Twittering from the cast and crew of "Universe" (and if they are, please let us know), but fans have been getting all the latest from actors Brian Jacob Smith (@brianjacobsmith) and David Blue (@davidblue).

Blue shared a photo from the set on his blog, located at www.David-Blue.com, but it's not what you think. However, Smith is still concerned about some pre-conceived notions fans have of the show.

"Am ready for October," Smith said about the scheduled premiere on Syfy. "The assumptions people make based on little to no information are ridiculous. Kinda entertaining, though."

Smith likes what he's reading script-wise, however, saying fans will "trip out" when they see it. And it's been rather busy. And Blue agreed. "Robert/Brad are awesome," Blue said of Robert C. Cooper and Brad Wright. "/of story."

"Sorry about the silence," Smith said last week. "An insane two days on set. I think I spent 12 hours just sweating. Worth it, though."

Smith and Blue also shared some barbs through some acting tips.

"Best way to memorize lines: Record your cues on a tape recorder and leave enough time for your line to be said," Smith said. "Saved my ass many times."

Rehearsing with yourself is somewhat similar to lawyers who represent themselves, Blue said. "I find that I then judge the person I'm rehearing with," he said.

Speaking of Stargate, one of our favorite actors from "Stargate: Atlantis" has been quite active in the Twitterverse, and although his show is no longer on the air, it seems that David Hewlett is still running into a lot of fans ... just not in the best of ways.

"Man just drove up and shouted to me that he was a jerk," Hewlett (@dhewlett) said. "I thanked him for the update and for not being a jerk with a firearm."

But apparently there was at least one fan who crossed a big line they should've never crossed.

"My friends don't drop by the house announced, so not the thing for fans to do. Yikes!"

And finally, a few funny moments from Twitter in the past week.

"Paper or plastic?" actor Greg Grunberg (@greggrunberg) of "Heroes" asked. "Plastic won't ever break down, and paper will kill the rainforest. I need help! Funny help only please ..."

Our favorite "Lost" reviewer @jopinionated had a thought about Evangeline Lilly's wardrobe choice on the ABC show.

"Kate's red scrunchie is the worst fashion faux pas ever on 'Lost,'" she said. "Worse than the bad wigs in flashbacks and '70s Dharmaville."

Wil Wheaton has seen probably seen more Progressive insurance advertisements than he would care to. "I don't get it," he said. "Why did the guy in the Progressive commercial sell his watch to his boyfriend? And why won't he sell it back?"

The latest commercials for "Star Trek XI" let potential moviegoers know that this isn't their father's Star Trek. Apparently the ad isn't for everyone. "Not your father's Star Trek?" Roddenberry asked. "Hmmmm."

Finally, this is not really sci-fi related, but just one of the funny things on timing. @howrudeareyou talked about riding the bike for 30 minutes. "On a Saturday morning ... before 11 a.m.? Who the hell am I?"

And just seconds later, comedienne Margaret Cho (@margaretcho) had the answer: "And remember today, whoever you are, you are loved."
