Dawson downplays problems

'The Weakest Link' was all in good fun, and has no ill will toward Wheaton

All the recent problems surrounding comments made by Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher, "Star Trek: The Next Generaton") and Roxann Dawson (B'Elanna Torres, "Star Trek: Voyager") on the celebrity edition of NBC's "The Weakest Link" appears to all have been a misunderstanding.

Dawson posted a message to her official message board, stating that her comments about Wheaton's appropriateness during her testimonial after being voted off was part of the fun, and was not serious.

"We all had a great time shooting 'Weakest Link,'" she said. "Wil and I especially had fun sparring. It was all in jest. My comments at the end of the show were in keeping with the spirit of our fun sparring. I wish I could even take credit for the idea. It was recommended that I say that by the producers. I thought it was funny. It's a shame they cut away from my comment before I started laughing."

The incident was first reported by Entertainment Weekly last week for the episode which aired Monday night in the U.S. When host Anne Robinson asked Wheaton why he voted for Dawson, he answered that he was in love with her. When Dawson exited the stage after being voted off, she blew a kiss in Wheaton's direction and mouthed "I love you." However, later on in her testimonial, she appeared upset with the sparring, and said it was inappopriate for Wheaton to say what he did, especially when he knew her husband would be watching.

Almost immediately after hearing about the incident in Entertainment Weekly, Wheaton posted to his official site that he didn't realize she had taken it negatively, and was working to contact her to apologize.

"The aim of the show is to create conflict ... and I guess they did," Dawson said. "I didn't take offense to Bill Shatner saying he could take me in a fight. What does he think I am, a weak woman?

"Wil is great and I loved doing the show with him. Remember, the show was about having fun and charity. No one took it very seriously."
