J.J. Abrams is practically the king of the viral campaign, and he's not stopping it when it comes to his latest series "Fringe" on Fox.
Michael Cerveris, who plays the bald-headed The Observer on the series, has been popping up on different high-profile Fox network live outing from NFL playoffs games to New York Yankees games, even "American Idol" and a NASCAR race.
Some Fox staffers are calling it the "Where's Baldo?" campaign, according to trade publication Variety, and have made sure that while The Observer shows up on camera, any announcers that are a part of the broadcast don't react to him or say anything about him.
The goal, of course, is to continue the "Fringe" story element that The Observer is watching the different events unfold in "The Pattern," a series of events that generally have gone unexplained.
"Fringe" has been one of the few freshman knockouts of the season, thanks to its boost from "American Idol" recently, and is likely to return next season, which is more than what can be said for other new shows.
Here are some of The Observer's recent appearances, thanks to "Fringe" fans, and Fox says Cerveris will continue to show up at other events in character in coming weeks.
Cerveris is a character actor who got his start on "General Hospital" in the early 1980s, and has appeared on a number of shows since then including "Fame," "Quantum Leap," "CSI," and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
