SyFy Radio Gone, But Alpha Waves Premieres Friday

Joining the hosts will be Mitch Rubenstein, one of the founders of SciFi Channel

Don't call it SyFy Radio anymore. Now, you can simply call it Alpha Waves.

The online radio show, hosted by Airlock Alpha founder Michael Hinman until last January, returns March 27 with all-new episodes exploring the past, present and future of science-fiction.

The new hosts of the show are Wayne Hall, the news editor of Airlock Alpha, and Nick Chase, the chief technology officer of Airlock Alpha's parent corporation, Quantum Global Media Inc. However, because Hall is recovering from surgery, fans of the older show will get a treat as Michael Hinman will return to guest host the return episode.

And it's a good time to come back for him. Less then two weeks following the announcement that SciFi Channel is going to rebrand itself "Syfy," using a term Hinman created more than a decade ago, he will be talking about the whole name change issue for what he says is the "last time."

"We seem to have been talking about SciFi and Syfy non-stop for two weeks, and to be honest, I'm ready to move on to other things," Hinman said. "Madonna never plays some of her hits from the 1980s because she's simply tired of singing them over and over again. And I feel like if someone from the crowd asks for 'Papa Don't Preach' one more time, I'm going to jump through a window."

Scheduled to join Hinman and Chase for Friday's show is Mitch Rubenstein, one of the founders of SciFi Channel, who recently spoke out against the network's name change. Hinman, despite challenging NBC Universal on the origin of the "Syfy" name, has actually supported the name change, but more because he wants to see the name succeed than anything else, he has said.

The show will mark the first -- and likely only -- time Hinman has talked about the name change in a live, public forum, and calls will be welcomed during the live show, which begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Alpha Waves can be found at www.AlphaWavesRadio.com beginning at 8 p.m. ET, with a live chatroom opening around 7:30. Those who want to hear the broadcast but can't make the live feed can download a full archive of the show anytime at the same site, or on iTunes.

Alpha Waves will air every Friday at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT at www.AlphaWavesRadio.com.
