David Eick Departs 'Philanthropist' For 'Caprica'
It looks like David Eick's stay on the NBC series "The Philanthropist" was a short one.
In her first act as the new head of scripted programming for NBC, Angela Bromstad has returned Tom Fontana to the series he created, and has bumped Eick back to SciFi Channel's "Battlestar Galactica" prequel "Caprica," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Fontana left the proposed mid-season series for NBC back in April when he hit a creative brick wall with NBC's previous management that included Katherine Pope. Eick replaced him soon after, taking on the role of executive producer and showrunner.
"The Philanthropist" is about a billionaire named Teddy Rist, played by James Purefoy, who becomes a vigilante philanthropist, who travels the world helping people.
It's being produced by Universal Media Studios, Original Media and Levinson/Fontana Co.
Fontana first made his mark on television in the 1980s with "St. Elsewhere" before spending the 1990s with "Homicide: Life on the Street."
He wrote 56 episodes of the hit HBO series "Oz," where he also was an executive producer.
Eick had a hit with "Battlestar Galactica" on SciFi Channel, but marred his record a little bit with last year's NBC flop "Bionic Woman."
"The Philanthropist" will air in early 2009. "Caprica" is slated to premiere in 2010.
